Angels have a special order and are assigned certain functions.  

Archangel Michael	First Rank (Chief Prince) The highest and most powerful.
Gabriel	Mighty One of God Brings messages from God to His people
Cherubim	Majestic and Beautiful Guards God's holiness for contamination
Seraphim	Burning ones Burning devotion to God
Dominions	Authority over dominions Carry out the bidding of God
Rulers	Rule in certain parts of God 's Kingdom
Thrones	Sit on their own lesser throne in the presence of God
